Your AC Company Has More Impact on Your Health Than You Think

In hot, humid climates, HVAC is not just about comfort. The way your system handles humidity, filtration, ventilation, and pressure affects the air your family breathes.

Your HVAC system controls the air your family breathes.

Your AC company has more impact on your health than many people realize.

Yeah, let that sink in. It is something I see every day, especially here in hot, humid Louisiana.

Dr. Joseph Allen from Harvard’s Healthy Buildings Program has been clear that the air inside your home has a significant impact on health. That includes breathing, sleep, immune function, and mental clarity.

And who controls that air? Your HVAC contractor.

Comfort is not the same as healthy air.

The way your system is designed, installed, commissioned, and maintained determines whether your home stays dry enough to prevent mold.

It determines whether your air is actually filtered or just recirculating dust and contamination.

It determines whether there is controlled ventilation or whether the system is pulling nasty air from walls, attics, and crawlspaces.

It determines whether your home supports your health or quietly works against it.

Most HVAC companies are still only thinking about temperature.

The problem is that most HVAC companies do not think about any of this. They are focused on temperature and comfort.

They do not ask about humidity, filtration, ventilation, dehumidification, or the building envelope. They are not trained that way.

But your lungs do not care about comfort settings. They care about clean, dry air.

Your doctor can treat symptoms. Your HVAC system can help prevent them.

Your doctor can help treat symptoms. Your HVAC system can help prevent some of the conditions that contribute to them, but only if it is done right.

If your technician is not talking about air quality and health, it is time to find one who does.
